We are seeking a National Health and Safety Specialist in our head office in Ayr, ON. (currently virtual)
The National Health and Safety Specialist is a key member of the Human Resources team and has an overall hands-on responsibility to promote health, safety and well-being at DriverCheck as well as facilitate the development, implementation and maintenance of our safety program. The National H&S Specialist will act as an ambassador for DriverCheck, maintaining its commitment to a safe and healthy work place. This strong Safety Professional will be an effective liaison between multiple stakeholders within DriverCheck, as well as our outside clients and any vendors or other external parties. In this role the incumbent will support managers and employees, leading the development of H&S for the organization, while playing an important role in cultivating, promoting and fostering the DriverCheck culture and values in all activities.
Qualifications

Relevant HSE degree, diploma or certificate and a professional safety designation, such as the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)

5-7 years of previous related experience as a health and safety advisor in a unionized environment

Solid understanding of H&S legislation in Ontario and Alberta;

Related projects and tasks assigned as required and in line with the overall organization's needs and requirements.
Essential Responsibilities
Lead the regional development and implementation of the National Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) and its related regional and site specific safety programs;
-
Act as the SME with all applicable occupational health and safety requirements identified in legislation, the health and safety management system (HSMS), internal and client based safety plans and all other site-specific relevant documentation.

Actively partner with the management team in the establishment of the health and safety strategic direction, including identification of development needs and alignment of regional OHS programs and systems to achieve business results;

Develop and implement regional emergency preparedness plans, lead associated site specific drills, and support national crisis management processes, as required;

Lead the company’s Health and Safety Committee; developing and maintaining documentation and terms of reference, meetings etc.

Initiate ongoing communication regarding changes to existing safety policies and the implementation of new safety policies and procedures.

Prepare, analyze and communicate Safety reports and initiate relevant data driven recommendations.

Lead and/or conduct accident/incident investigations to resolve health and safety concerns; and reporting to relevant provincial WCB’s

Ensure employees and managers are kept aware of the organization’s health and safety requirements and are provided the proper equipment and training to perform their jobs safely and in accordance with health and safety regulations;

Manage all leave of absence programs, and return to work programs; including disability management and attendance management;

Remain current in all legislative changes and ensure that colleagues on the HR team are made aware of changes and requirements in health and safety legislation;

Leverage internal relationships to effectively determine and implement program changes or actions;

Liaise with the organizations legal counsel as required;

Monitor legislation to ensure the organization is adhering to best practices and applicable legislation;

Be an ambassador of the organization; including adhering to policies, and acting as a role model to DriverCheck’s company culture;

Be a trusted advisor to employees and management on questions and concerns as they arise within the department;

Monitor, review and maintain the effectiveness of processes;

Other projects and ad-hoc assignments as required
